What an impressive effort from the Garforth Town youngsters - beating Evo Stik outfit Ossett United on their patch! Ossett started like a house on fire and were well on top for the first 15 minutes. Osset were pinging the ball about in impressive fashion. It looked as though this coud be a very long night indeed for theTown youngsters. It came as no surprise when the home side took the lead on 15 minutes when they were awarded a direct free kick on the edge of the box. Garforth built a wall. Now my cousin Ronnie will tell you from experience that building a solid wall is all well and good..but it has to be built in the right place..his neighbourly lawsuit still rumbles on! 1-0 to United. Raul Fletcher equalised some 10 minutes later when he caught their centre mid in possession before beating the fullback and smashing the ball low into the near post gap from about 15 yards. 1-1 and game on. Garforth captain Lee Coulhard came within inches of putting his side into the lead a few minutes later with his sizzling shot from the edge of the box which hit the underside of the Ossett crossbar. Ossett regained the lead a few minutes before half time when young keeper Dan Booth, who once again had a fine game, and ex England Futsal international Micah Bleau, had a Chuckle Brothers moment exchanging one too many passes in their own penalty box in a' back to you, back to me' fashion. They might still be exchanging passes now if the Osset centre forward hadn't put an end to this Chuckle Brothers mimicry by robbing the flustered Booth of the ball and tapping it into the unguarded net. 2-1 down at half time, away from home against an Evo Stik side - images of climbers and mountains flashed in front of me. Garforth came out for the second half looking as though they were determined to get something out of the game..and get something out of the game they certainly did ....3 points and a nice little egg shaped lump on young Josh Prince's forehead generated courtesy of a rather over robust, but not malicious, tackle from the Town right back. Our youngsters equalised with a fine goal. Captain Lee Coulthard stole the ball from the Ossett centre midfielder before playing a one - two with Joe Colley. Coulthard then played the ball to the overlapping Cuttle who squared it to Raul Fletcher. Bad luck for Ossett that....the ball falling to Raul Fletcher's feet..he is clinical in these situations. 2-2. Game on again. Garforth were increasingly getting a good grip on the game and it came as no surprise when they bagged the winner approximately 15 minutes from the end. Tommy Reynolds put in a lovely free kick from just outside the box in a wide area and Joe Colley volleyed it home from 2 or 3 yards out. Ossett had 3 good chances to force an equaliser in the closing 10 minutes - perhaps 'how to defend a lead calmly' might be the theme of the Garforth's youngsters next coaching session, but Ossett learned in this period what I already knew, the rapidly developing 17 year Garforth keeper Booth takes a lot of beating these days. 3-2 to Garforth at the final whistle - a belter of a game - the return fixture is a week on Thursday down at Cedar Ridge - lets hope it is as good as this match. Well done to 2 good footballing sides - both a credit to their clubs.
