Not quite sure how the youngsters lost this one to be honest for at 2-0 up on 70 minutes away at table topping Campian in a game of few chances the 3 points looked in the bag. Campian had produced few chances of note up to them scoring their opening goal - they rattled the crossbar early in the first half and missed with a near post header early in the second - and it was difficult to imagine them bagging 3 goals in the last 20 minutes. Young Wesley Gibrill-Keating, who had a fine game in his new role as centre half, gave away an unnecessary free kick out wide in the 70th minute and in doing so had to leave the field of play through injury. The resulting free kick was planted into the Garforth box and Campian scored with an header from a delayed run. Minutes late the home side equalized when their wide player was allowed to run too long with the ball before drilling a low shot across Garforth keeper Williams. 2-2 with 10 minutes to go. Could the youngsters hold their nerve? Unfortunately no - Campian clinched all 3 points late in the game with the Garforth boys insisting the goal should have been disallowed but the liner countering that the far side full back had 'played him on'. 3-2 to Campian and that is how it remained right up to the final whistle. A shame really for Garforth had once again played well especially for the first 70 minutes but they must learn that 'a dog is for life, not just Christmas and that a football match is for 90 minutes, not just 70 minutes'. Garforth had opened the scoring early in the game when Mat Devlin surged on a 35 yard foray, riding 2 robust challenges in the process, before smashing the ball into the roof of the net and then doubled their lead some 15 minutes later with another fine goal. Keeper Brad Williams, who also had a good game, diffused a through ball before passing it to full back Ryan Noon. Ryan played into centre midfielder Raul Fletcher, who turned out and played it forward to Mat Devlin. Mat played Josh Prince into the bye line area and followed his pass. Josh played a cute pass into the 6 yard box where Mat Devlin tapped it in. A great team goal. The mood in the Garforth camp after the game was one of annoyance - the boys knew that they had let the 3 points slip out of the bag and I am sure that they will be itching to get back out on the park this Thursday v Yorkshire Amateurs to put in another good performance AND bag all of the 3 points.
