Mark Simpson was on target again to equal Peter Taylor's record, but that was as good as it got as our neighbours took all three points to replace us in 11th.

Rob Hunter was forced to name Dan Coupland and Jack McMurrough as his centre-back pairing, replacing the injured Luke McCrum and Jack Lazenby. Meanwhile there was a return for Stephen Weatherill who replaced the suspended Pete Lawrie in goal.

The visitors started the evening much brighter, and soon after an early goalmouth scramble in our own box, the visitors took the lead with a well-worked goal. On 6 mins Marc Lumb received Joe Walton's clever pass on the left and delivered to Daniel Farrar who fired into the bottom corner. In a half of few chances, Steve Weatherill made a good stop to push wide Bradley Davies' powerful strike on 14 mins before Town carved out their first chance moments later when Mark Simpson glanced Matthew Savage's delivery just wide.

On 48 mins it was 2-0 when Lumb picked out Walton who shrugged off two defenders to turn and shoot low into the net via the foot of the post. Garforth's defenders struggled throughout to handle the powerful Walton, who wreaked havoc in our 6-0 defeat at Clayborn last season. Down the other end however, we finally started to cause the visitors problems, with a hard-working Niah Payne finding space on the right wing. Simpson forced a save from Sedge goalkeeper Harry Stead seconds later, but he had his goal on 50 mins when tucking away at the far post Payne's right-wing cross. A 25th goal of the season for the striker, who's scored in every one of the last seven where Town have found the net.

Up to press The Miners had been guilty of largely squandering set-pieces, but one which did result in an opening came on 51 mins when Lee Turner smashed wide Savage's corner kick. In the first of a couple of big chances for Sean Hunter, he was played in by Simpson who did well after the ball got caught under his feet, but the same fate befell Hunter who shot wide. Striker Calum Ward was introduced on 73 mins giving us some much-needed hold-up play, but it didn't stop our opponents putting the game to bed six minutes later. A Lumb corner was played to Walton who's downward header found its way into the net past awaiting defenders.

Seconds later Hunter should've have reduced the arrears when played in with just Stead to beat, but blazed well over the bar. Sedge were given a glorious opportunity of their own five minutes from time to make it 4-1 when they were awarded a penalty after McMurrough's shirt pull on Walton. Farrar stepped up, but fired high over the bar and probably onto the M1. Team-mate Walton was unlucky not to claim his hat-trick when beating two defenders and seeing a low shot strike the foot of the post. With no further Garforth chances, it mattered not however and Jonathan Rimmington's side went on to a deserved win.

A disappointing evening for Rob Hunter's side, but they have only two days to get this one out of their system with the upcoming visit of Bottesford Town tomorrow (kick-off 3pm). Preview to follow tomorrow morning.
