GNE beaten by Kendal
Glossop North End had a disappointing afternoon at Surrey Street as they were thoroughly beaten by Kendal Town who moved above them in the league table.
GNE went into the game on the back of a defeat at Leek Town on Tuesday night, the Hillmen were looking to get back to winning ways against fellow strugglers Kendal Town who arrived at Surrey Street having not played in 2 weeks Thanks to the postponement of their fixture with Radcliffe last week.
Managers Pete Band & Lloyd Morrison made 3 changes from the side that lost at Leek on Tuesday. Jamie McLellan returned to the side in place of Oliver Thornley. McLellan returning to the starting XI after being on the bench on Tuesday. Kane Hickman was handed his first GNE start since returning from Buxton, he lined up in central midfield in place of Jason Hill. Finally, Pete Boyle was named out wide on the left hand side of midfield in place of the absent Sam Howell.
The game started with both teams on the attack from the get go, however it was Glossop who came up with the first big chance of the game. GNE broke well down the left hand side with Pete Boyle who managed to square the ball across the onrushing Kendal defence for Ian Bennett who's shot was saved. After that chance the game was to fall away from GNE as they conceded 3 goals in the first half.
Goals from Kyle Sambor (16 mins), Scott Harries (29 mins) and Steven Yawson (35 minutes) saw the Hillmen head into the break 3-0 down after a disappointing first half. HT GNE 0-3 Kendal Town.
It was hoped that GNE could have found a way back into the game in the second half as they did at Chasetown just 7 days earlier. However today was to be a different story. Just 3 minutes into the second half Bobby Thomas netted for the visitors to leave the Hillmen 4-0 down after a poor start to the half.
Jack Tuohy gave fans something to cheer about with a converted penalty in the 79th minute, but GNE left themselves with too much to do and the game ran out. FT GNE 1-4 Kendal Town.
It's a result that will have sent a lot of home fans dissatisfied, GNE were just not at their best and it showed, Kendal were much the stronger side and got the result they needed. The result leaves GNE without a win in their last 3 games, the squad and management team will have to dust themselves off and go again with the next fixture just 3 days away. On Tuesday the Hillmen host Droylsden at Surrey Street in the league cup, a game in which they will be looking to turn around their recent run of form.
