Warriors' captain Connor Jones has been rewarded with an All Golds contract after an impressive season with the club.

“He has a good attitude and work ethic and it is up to him to force his way into the first team next season” All Golds Head Coach, Lee Greenwood

Jones, 20, started his rugby league career at the Gloucester Meteors at the age of 14 before joining the All Golds Academy two years later.

During his time with the Academy he went on to gain national honours, representing England at college level. After finishing High School he was offered a scholarship at the University of Gloucestershire where he is currently studying for a degree in sports coaching and development.

This summer, Jones was an ever-present for the Gloucestershire Warriors, who play in the Conference League South, captaining the side to seventh place in the table, scoring three tries.

All Golds Head Coach Lee Greenwood is confident Jones has the ability to feature in 2016.

He said: “it is important we promote from within and give the right people opportunities. Connor worked hard last pre-season and has now played a full season of mens’ rugby with the Gloucestershire Warriors.

"He has a good attitude and work ethic and it is up to him to force his way into the first team next season. He certainly has the ability to do so.”

After signing up with the All Golds for 2016 Jones, a former pupil of Beaufort Community School, said: “I’m very excited, it’s something I’ve been working for from a young age. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.

"I played in a pre-season game against Hemel this year and it was a big step up from BUCS rugby league. With a strong pre-season I’m confident I can make an impact.”

Jones continued: “This season I’ve played in a few positions for the Warriors but I’d say my best position is second row.

"My aims for 2016 are to break into the match day squad and to carry on my development. I’m really happy to be part of a great team, I can’t wait to get going.”
