Grantham Town Chairman, Roger Booth welcomed a packed Gingerbread this evening.

A delighted Roger was able to announce that the club had secured a main sponsor for the 2017/18 season (more to follow)

Academy Manager Alex Watson was introduced to the supporters and he explained how he was gearing up for the upcoming season. "With sides across from U10 to U21s, there are now approximately 130 players under the Academy. We also have set up a Disability side, which the Academy Scholars will be involved in the coaching."

Alex was questioned about how the U21 side would work alongside the first team squad "We're in the Lincolnshire FA Development league and this allows 3 over age players. This gives Adam Stevens the opportunity to have players who have spent time on the bench, injured or a new player he wants to look at" he added "I'll take my remit from Adam if he wants to have someone play 60 minutes, we'll give him 60 minutes. Our overall aim of the Academy is to improve the first team" Adam Stevens added to this "I'm really pleased to be working with Alex, we work very similar. Already we're seeing the likes of Tom Curtis and Kevin Da Silva Bastos training with us, being named on the bench and getting match time where possible. I want to see more of this as it's great for everyone." Roger Booth also praised Alex's work since joining the club "Alex is building a great relationship with 1life, he was able to organise time for some of the first team players in the gym."

The website and social media will have full details of all the Academy matches.

Roger introduced Adam to the assembled supporters and praised him for the work he has done in preparation for the season ahead.

Adam was first asked his target for the season ahead "To keep getting better! I'm not one for setting a target. It's going to be another tough season. We have some big clubs coming down and the clubs coming up want to establish themselves in the league." He was asked if he knew his starting 11 "I think so, but I've got 25 players out there training tonight and anyone of them have the possibility of being in it. I ask my players to work hard and do what I ask them. Get that right and there is going to be competition for places. However with a lot of games in the early part of the season I'll be calling upon the whole squad. Last season we finished with a small squad and that was ultimately where we slipped up"

While the meeting was going on the staff of The Gingerbread handed out hot dogs and burgers which will be served from the to be named catering outlet and supplied by Ancaster Butchers.

Roger Booth closed the night by thanking everyone for attending, for Adam and Alex for taking the time to speak to the supporters.
