Grantham came out 2-0 winners in the local derby game at Harrowby. Played in front of a crowd of over 150 it was Harrowby who started brightly but once Grantham settled they dominated throughout the game. A combination of solid defending by Harrowby with former Gingerbread Billy Stubbs together with Joe Braithwaite both prominent thwarted attack after attack from Grantham. The Gingerbreads created several chances with Danny Meadows hitting the bar with a curling effort from outside the box. The opening goal finally came on 35 minutes. Danny Meadows played in another cross and Rhys Lewis got onto the end of it to fire home.
Both sides made changes in the second half with Grantham using a total of 7 substitutes. The pattern of the game continued with Harrowby keeper Craig Rhodes making good saves from Jack Beckett and Grant Ryan. Harrowby did show more going forward in the second half and came close to an equaliser on 66 minutes but Jake Turner saved at full stretch at his near post to keep out a headed effort following a corner. Grantham introduced 15 year old goalkeeper Oliver Sinclair for the final quarter of an hour and the youngster was tested when Harrowby’s Lewis Watson broke clear but Sinclair stood up and turned away his shot. Grantham finally got the second goal their pressure deserved when Grant Ryan’s cross from the right found Michael Hollingsworth who fired past Rhodes to wrap things up for the Gingerbreads.
