Game Ends Goalless Against King’s Lynn

GINGERBREADS DRAW FOURTH PRE SEASON GAME

On the hottest evening of the year Grantham used 19 players in the game but after 90 minutes neither side could manage a goal.
Throughout the game both defences had the upper hand and chances were few and far between for both sides.
After an even opening 5 minutes Sam Purcicoe fired over for Grantham from 25 yards and Grant Ryan brought a save from King’s Lynn keeper Alex Street a minute later. Grantham should have taken the lead on 17 minutes when Grant Ryan found himself one on one with Street but a heavy final touch saw the ball run through to the King’s Lynn keeper. The game was stopped at the mid-point of the half for a drinks break and when it resumed King’s Lynn came more into the game. Toby Hillard shot wide on 25 minutes. On 35 minutes Lee Stevenson played in Jack Frohawk but the King’s Lynn striker shot over from 12 yards. Grantham countered and following a powerful run down the right Danny Durkin saw his shot kept out by Streets legs. In the final minutes of the half Jake Turner was called into action twice first following a shot from Hillard and then to make a good one handed save from Lee Stevenson.
Grantham brought on Luke Shaw, Rhys Lewis, Michael Hollingsworth and Jamie Mcghee at half time for Jack Beckett, Aiden Kirby, Danny Meadows and Curtis Burrows with King’s Lynn replacing Jordon Yong with Danny Setchell. Unfortunately Rhys Lewis lasted just 4 minutes when he succumbed to a bruised heel picked up in the game at Sleaford and Jack Beckett returned in his place. Grantham were awarded a free kick on the right near to the by-line on 54 minutes. Luke Shaw played the ball in and when it came back to him his powerful shot was well saved by Street. Kings Lynn had a chance on 57 minutes but Stevenson’s shot drifted wide of the post. Grantham introduced Stefan Bilyk and Sam Hankin for Danny Durkin and Grant Ryan on the hour. King’s Lynn appealed for a penalty on 62 minutes but nothing was given and play switched to the other end where Luke Shaw saw his shot from the edge of the box go narrowly over. Grantham brought on young 16 year old academy keeper Clarke Dabell for the final minutes of the game but neither side could make a break through and it ended goal less
