but couldn't make the most of their chances. Warrington showed the way with early goals in each half.
With a wintery wind behind them, Grantham started brightly but found themselves behind after 13 minutes. Warrington's first attack of the game brought the opening goal of the game. A good through ball sent Devarn Green clear of the Grantham defence. Green kept his composure and shot past Kieron Preston.
Five minutes later Grantham thought they had equalised. Danny Meadows got on the end of a free kick from Olly Luto and beat Luke Pilling at the second attempt. Unfortunately for the Gingerbreads, he was flagged offside.
Lee Shaw had the best of a flurry of chances around the half hour mark. Jordan Hempenstall and Warrington's Joseph Piggott both missed the target before Hempenstall sent Shaw clear of the home defence. Pilling did well to deny Shaw and keep his side in front.
Eight minutes after the break, Grantham were two goals behind. Jamie McDonald collected a clearance and turned the Gingerbreads defence. From 30 yards out he tried his luck with the wind behind him. His shot came back off the crossbar and hit the Gingerbreads goalkeeper Preston on the back before crossing the line.
Warrington were under constant pressure from the Gingerbreads for the rest of the game, but defended strongly. Pilling wasn't stretched as Grantham's attacks were thwarted.
Eventually Grantham started to get closer. Rhys Lewis had a shot saved in the dying minutes before Grantham got an injury time consolation. Lee Shaw got behind the Warrington defence on the left and delivered a deep cross. Danny Meadows powered his header past Pilling, but it was too little too late for Grantham.
