Old Farts report

Fantasy football

If you had said back in November you are going to lose only once in the next eleven matches, go five straight wins in Jan and Feb, lie third in the league and dream of second then you were either away with the fairies, drunk or on medication, but no here we are travelling down to Denbigh in dream world!!! The cars occupants average age close to 80 plus a youngster from the Welsh Prem who wants to watch a decent team (who will remain nameless and we will call him Nath P.), discussing tactics, stories from another age and Nath shaking his head in disbelief as Ronny H tells us about an away game he played in where he ended up milking cows on the way home!!!!
> What a difference a week makes for the hardy away support (HTA or Haggis's Travelling Army) unbelievably cold at Conway last Saturday followed by barmy sunny weather this week, great ground, pitch looking well and some 30 plus from Gresford can’t wait.Tense atmosphere pre match for the supporters broken by light relief provided by the Chairman who arrived just in time for kick off having had a puncture, jokes were flying. Haggis looked calm and so did the players and they showed they were up for it with Owen latching onto a through ball in the first minute and reminding Dunty he was in for a busy afternoon. Tight game followed with defences on top, Josh breaking up a lot of Denbigh attacks (what a great season he is having) back four looking solid, lads out wide causing problems, Owen non stop and Jack and Chal providing the skill and graft. Mike not troubled in goal nil nil half time.
> Second half Denbigh take the game to us defence solid and we start to create some chances, Owen hitting the side net when put through, and Dunty holding onto a couple of long range efforts. Sixty five minutes in Jake Eyre looking suspiciously offside breaks through Mike comes out, over goes Jake, ref gives the pen and books Mike. Their top scorer knocks it hard and low to Mikes right he gets hand to it diving low, out for a corner great save.Game is now flowing back and to with both sides attacking, Macca hits the post with great effort and big Jack heads wide from a corner. Ten to go Haggis makes the changes on comes Rhys for Owen, good move edge of the box, ball played in behind Denbigh centre halves, Rhys latches onto it, out flies Dunty, Rhys calmly goes round him, left foot back of the net, queue celebration, I need to ask Rhys where he was running off to we all thought he was heading for the turnstiles thank god someone told him there was two minutes to go. I check where Ronny H is (no more episodes like Holyhead) ref blow the whistle. We see out the game superb result, stay third, happy support back in Denbigh pub after the game.It really is a fantastic achievement to see Gresford where they are in what is a very tough league, and to see this team get winning results most weeks make supporting a great afternoon out. Well done lads, nothing like winning away from home, two home matches to come followed by what could be an epic at Prestatyn, HAPPY DAYS.

> Bye the way Julian last seen travelling on the back of a RAC wagon heading towards Ruthin, whip round in the pub got him a push bike!!!
