Focusing On: Gary Croft

By Dan Sylvester

Were looking more at our former England Under 21 and Premier League player Gary Croft.

Having spent 16 years as a proffesional left back for a number of clubs, Croft has joined Borough and will be playing football for Borough in a more attacking position down the middle as a striker.

Croft began his career in Grimsby Town's youth system in 1992. Croft made his England U21 international debut against Brazil in 1995 - the same game as David Beckham made his U21 debut. In 1996 having made 4 caps for Englands Under 21 international, Croft as a 22 year old made a £1.6 million move to Blackburn Rovers who at the time were Premier League Champions.

Three years later having made 52 premier league apperances scoring a solo goal the full back moved to Ipswich Town who at the time were in Division One but were later promoted in 2000 to the premier league. However having a injury destributed second half to his Ipswich career he had loan spells with Wigan and Cardiff before making a pernament switch to the welsh side.

81 games later Croft returned to Grimsby where it all began and in 2007 signed for Lincoln City.

Croft, now aged 41 is a local businessman in Grimsby owning Crofts Estate Agents will also feature as an actor in the 2016 released film Dead Lies alongside Michael Barrymore.

Gary has featured in Borough's pre-season campaign scoring one goal in the game against Grimsby Town's Youth side after coming on as a late substitute.
