Close game ends in another defeat

Hadley Wood & Wingate suffered a third consecutive close defeat on Saturday losing 4-3 in a tight game against current Herts Senior Premier League champions Belstone.

Bel stone took the lead after 8 minutes when a penalty was converted and then extended the lead after 12 minutes slotting home after a mix up with the Hadley Wood defence. However, Hadley Wood got back into the game 2 minutes later when spectacular strike from Lewis Jones who scored in his second straight game.

On 22 minutes the game took a turn for the worse for Hadley Wood when Frankie Webb was sent off. But rather than contain the opposition it was Hadley Wood who were on top and equalised on the stroke of half time when Josh Grantham scored a superb free kick past the Belstone goalkeeper.

The second half started much like the first half ended with 10 men Hadley Wood on top and straight from kick off Hadley Wood took the lead through Ike Nzuruba.

However, the 10 men could not hold on and Belstone finally took advantage of the extra man equalising to make it 3-3 and then towards the end of the game Belstone took the lead once again when Thomas Spenser beaten at his near post.

The run of defeats continues for Hadley Wood & Wingate however they will look to stop the run when they host London Lions on Tuesday 1st September at the Harry Abrahams Stadium at 19:45.
