Kebabs!

Ah those halcyon days.

Bordering on boredom, a social pariah ineptly lies in a room carpeted from wall to wall with football paraphernalia. The wallpaper seamlessly displays two teams, Manchester red and the even Greater Manchester blue, competing for a good old fashioned brown leather ball. The shirt colours represented everything! The men featured were oddly faceless, identical in shape whilst all visiting the same coiffure in town.

The idle hours would trundle by as you would ponder on all the nothingness that Sunday entertainment represented in the late 70’s. I laboured along trying to find a purpose in programs like “The Love Boat”? Devoured chips time whilst watching CHiPS. Endless hours past watching snooker where one would wilfully will Big Bill Werbeniuk to cock his leg up onto the table to make a difficult pot look even tougher.

However much Bill tried, he never quite managed to tip the table up to allow the remaining colours to simply roll into the pockets. It was because of Bill they introduced the slate bed I am told! I mention colours yet we were that unfortunate family who got to watch the whole charade in black and white? Seems as surreal now as the opening titles from the programme “Tales of the Unexpected”.

Such hollowing emptiness often came without a price tag. No fool then could trick you into entering a monthly direct debit agreement and then allow for a rhetoric to exist whereby each month you pay a princely sum and submissively accept that you are getting a trillion FREE texts and 300 FREE minutes call time to any network or get this to “anyone”?

Of course now everybody is far too “terribly busy” to notice the blatantly obvious. A world where we have an American president willing to play ping pong with a North Korean – madness!

Not certain about you folk, but do you get to wondering whether linear thinking has any role to play today or has a great cape of delusion left us all as redundant as the landline telephone that sits in my hall.

I digress of course.

Today we were forced to perspire whilst watching our side dominate a football match only for that very same football match to finish with a narrow victory of 5 to 6. A late kick off away to Kew Park Rangers Reds did little for the weekend plans and played havoc with my nerves. A few last minute illnesses and a party in Camberley ripped up the team sheet and left the heralded knights exposed without their armour.

The indefatigable spirit that resides within this entire squad is right up there and 2nd to none however. Goals, two of them, came from Seb Lawson – bold and tireless throughout. Hunting the ball like a man possessed. Impressive Seb! A brace too for MOTM Ben Roohan, facing his former Club he mercilessly set about unpicking their lock like Harry Houdini. A nice goal from Owen Reed to get us off the mark and then an individually crafted goal from Max Adams. Switched off to allow for Kew’s sharp shooters to notch up an unmerited 5.

Song: “Why is it so hard” by Charles Bradley – RIP Charles!!! Enjoy
