Ambers slump to defeat in Hull

By

The Ambers suffered their worst league defeat of the season at Hall Road ....

The Ambers suffered their heaviest league defeat of the season in a lacklustre display at Hall Road Rangers, being well beaten 4-0 by the hosts who, in so doing, eased their relegation worries. With injuries throughout the squad, there were surprise returns for Jason Yates who last appeared back in early December, and Josh Hemmingway in the centre of the park.
The Ambers actually started well, and should have had an early penalty when Jon Hill was clearly pushed in the back as he leapt to meet a Brad Nicholson cross, but the referee thought otherwise. Nicholson’s long throws were causing havoc in the Rangers box, with the home keeper failing to deal with any number of them, and it seemed that there must have been an invisible force field in front of his goal as chance after chance went begging. Hill and Will Eades both struck the woodwork, as did a home corner as the hosts exerted some pressure of their own, mainly thanks to their own long throw expert, right back Owen.
The deadlock was broken after 25 minutes when a throw was headed onto the bar and followed in by Norton at the back post to give Rangers the lead against the run of play, but there seemed plenty of time for The Ambers to come back and they continued the aerial bombardment to no avail.
The crushing blow came just six minutes after the break when a free kick was met by a towering Mortimer header at the back post which flew past Jon Hedge. The Ambers continued to push for a way back, and Hill came close when he broke free down the left channel but dragged his shot just wide of the far post, whilst a Nicholson throw was headed off the line as Parirs Dixon closed in.
Youngsters Tyler Bradley and Connor Cutts were introduced from the bench for their league debuts, but it was a young home player who stole the headlines, sixteen year old find Reagan Waud capping a fine display with two late goals which gave Rangers a deserved victory, albeit the score line was slightly flattering given the early domination by The Ambers.
