Ambers ease to victory over Barton

By

Goals from Josh Nodder and Waide Fairhurst were enough to see The Ambers beat Barton Town 2-0 ....

With Ryan Carroll missing through injury, new signing from Maltby Josh Nodder came straight into The Ambers starting eleven, whilst there was a late blow when Alex Rippon had to drop out through illness at the last minute meaning a first start since returning to the club for Joe Thornton.
Thornton was soon into the action, his snap shot in the third minute causing Collins to react quickly to hold the ball over his head, this in response to an even earlier strike from Waudby which Jan Budtz comfortably dealt with.
Chimalilo then cantered through towards the Ambers goal, much as he did in the reverse fixture back in September, but his shot was deflected away for a corner which came to nothing. Collins was then forced into making the first real save of the game, when he got down well to parry away a fizzing strike from Jed Phillips, and the young keeper excelled again two minutes later, turning a thumping volley from Jamie Green onto the bar, as The Ambers started to dominate proceedings.
Phillips was then unlucky not to connect cleanly at the back post with a Nodder cross, before the new man was denied by a sprawling Collins who fumbled his shot, the keeper then denying Thornton at close range. Chimalilo looked the best bet going forward for The Swans, but Budtz was equal to anything the young striker or his team mates threw at him on the rare occasions that they threatened The Ambers goal.
The visitors survived again just before half time when Lee Cooksey headed a Josh Davies corner against the bar, and there was a blow for The Ambers when Cooksey limped off, to be replaced by James Ashmore, with Phillips dropping into the back four.
The second half began at a fast pace with Green and Nodder combining well to set up Waide Fairhurst who just failed to connect with the cross, before Swans striker Aldrich reminded everyone of his pedigree with a good run and shot, Budtz getting down well to claim the save.
As the hour mark was reached, Barton were seeing a lot more of the ball but not really creating anything in The Ambers area, and a swift break upfield saw the deadlock finally broken by The Ambers. Fairhurst found space in the Barton half and sent Thornton racing away down the inside right channel. After beating his marker, Thornton pulled the ball back for the onrushing Nodder to mark his debut by firing home despite the attention of three Town defenders on the line.
In response, Rogerson drilled a long range effort wide for The Swans, before The Ambers suddenly doubled their lead. An excellent defensive interception by Brad Nicholson released Nodder down the left, and after leaving his marker in his wake, the debutant picked out Fairhurst who reacted quickest to the cross and rounded the keeper before slotting neatly home from an acute angle.
Aldrich then had a decent effort saved by Budtz before substitute Bennett had a couple of half chances, but with Danny Buttle and Harry Mitchell brought on to shore things up, The Ambers comfortably shut up shop to claim a fourth successive win.
