U13 As victorious at Ealing

Another warm, sunny day and a friendly bunch of opposition coaches welcomed the HRFC U13s A Squad to Ealing Trailfinders, an impressive set-up, including 4G and excellent grass pitches.

After the success at Wasps, we were keen to keep the early-season momentum going and Hertford hit the ground running with an early try. Joe Robinson 'took one for the team' after 10 mins, to be replaced by Issac Deacon, a late arrival after Dad decided to work out the best route to Rosslyn Park for next week's fixture.

Good squad rotation after 15 minutes helped double the lead and meant everyone had a decent run-out in the first half, including a welcome return from Ben Southall after illness, who immediately got stuck into the Ealing back line.

With more rotation at half time, Hertford ran in another quick try shortly after the break before a little complacency and a couple of missed tackles allowed Ealing a glimmer of hope with a try of their own in response. Charlie Perring was having an inspirational day, barging through the Ealing centres to score.

Upfront, the Forwards were winning the scrum and a perfectly executed push allowed Alex Cicchirillo and Seb Bleriot to combine to put in Isaac Deacon, who ran a great line to split the defence and canter in over the try-line.

Meantime, Luca 'I only play well when Dave's there' Goodwin was putting in some monstrous tackles and with a constant barrage from both Second Row and the Centres, the Ealing team started to crumble. A great triple pick-and-go routine from Sam Aylwin, Keiran Edwards and Noah Verdin allowed the latter to squeeze the ball over the line. There was still time for Angus Pringle to put in two massive hits and then to score himself in the corner.

A great day and a great win, with the Ealing Lead Coach equally shell-shocked and passing on congratulations to our players for some excellent rugby. We will need to step up again next week at Rosslyn Park but we can enjoy this one for now.
