Match Report: Hinckley 98 v 0 Mold-Butts 15th April 2018 by Andy Duggins

Hinckley U14s continued their fantastic form for the season, scoring 98 points without reply in two brilliant wins against a touring side from North Wales and auld enemy Barkers Butts, in another entertaining tri-tournament at Leicester Road.
The first game was a closely fought contest between the visiting teams, Mold beating Butts by 12-5 in front of the home crowd who were closely weighing up the unknown Welsh opponents.

Game 1: Hinckley 45 – 0 Mold

Hinckley took to the field for the second game of the morning and immediately made their mark, Moore catching the kick-off and offloading to Jacques who powered through to score after 30 seconds. Allen converted to give the black and ambers a very early 7-0 lead.

Hinckley dominated the game from herein, winning a superb scrum against the head and probing deep into Mold’s half with runs by forwards Goodwin, Drakeford, Barnes, Underwood and Burton. The ball was quickly re-cycled, allowing the backs to display their skills, and passed neatly from Wainde to Allen to Jacques, whose offload found Moore who was tackled five metres short of the try-line. Jacques was on hand to pick up and dive over for his second try of the match, extending Hinckley’s lead to 12-0.

Mold counter-attacked from a scrum as the game re-commenced, testing Hinckley’s defence for the first time, but it held firm through tackles by Allen, Burton, Smith, Jacques, and a try-saver from Golding. Mold maintained possession until a brilliant tackle and steal from Moore set up Jacques, who crashed through for his hat-trick and Allen converted, taking the to scoreline to Hinckley 19-0 Mold as the half-time whistle sounded. Coach Barnes then dazzled the crowd, showing tremendous pace as he sprinted on with the water, sporting the new coaching team’s lycra track-suit bottoms.

Hinckley brought on a number of replacements for the second half, and were soon back on the score sheet. A textbook tackle by L. Whittingham and steal by Hutton allowed Jacques to sprint in for his, and Hinckley’s fourth try of the match. Allen’s conversion split the uprights increasing the black and ambers’ lead to 26-0.

Hinckley’s fifth try soon followed, breaks by A. Whittingham and Underwood created space for Moore who darted through for his first of the day. A brilliant conversion from Giles took the score to 33-0.

Hinckley continued on the offensive from the re-start with runs by Buckler and Barnes, taking the home team back into Mold’s half. Mold counter-attacked but couldn’t break through Hinckley’s defence as tackles by Moore, Buckler, Dewfield and Hutton kept them at bay.

Hinckley’s next score was a wonderfully worked team effort, Barnes taking the ball at pace from a long line-out throw and romping into Mold’s 22. The ball was recycled and taken forward by Toon and Golding before a sublime pass from Giles created space for Moore who ran a terrific line to score under the posts. Giles converted, extending Hinckley’s lead to 40-0.

A rather dejected looking Mold team re-started, kicking straight to Moore who took the catch and pirouetted, like a move from Dancing on Ice, before rounding the opposition with a fine solo run from inside his own half to score his hat-trick try and end the match, final score Hinckley 45-0 Mold
