FA VASE 3RD ROUND MATCH PREVIEW IRLAM FC V WINTERTON RANGERS FC

By IRLAM FC

IRLAM LOOK TO THE FOURTH ROUND

IRLAM FC are on the verge of making a little bit of their own history this weekend as they attempt to make it into the Fourth round of the FA Vase, placing them in the last 32 of the competition.
Their opponents tomorrow, North East Counties Div One side Winterton Rangers from Scunthorpe will be hoping to build on what was seen as the result of the previous round when they defeated Gateshead side Dunston UTS.
Home draws have been kind to IRLAM FC so far, victories against North East Counties Premier Division sides Handsworth Parramore and Hemsworth miners FC all coming at the Ambitek Stadium, with Winterton travelling to IRLAM tomorrow as the sole surviving Club from the NECFL League.
Predictably, not much is know about our opponents this afternoon, but they will be hoping to reverse a mini dip in form that has seen them, possibly temporarily, drop off the top spot in Div One back to fourth as they posted a draw and a 2-0 defeat against two of the teams around them at the top of their division over recent weeks.
Winterton's most recent outing was a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Grimsby Borough, prompting manager Rob Winterton to label his teams performance, "unacceptable". Assistant manager Scott Hellewell was also critical of his sides performance against Grimsby, saying that his side was "bullied all over the pitch" in the 2-0 defeat.
IRLAM FC are currently in the form of their lives, one defeat in 11 gives them the top spot in the whole of the North West Counties League. A hard fought draw against an excellent Whitchurch Alport side last weekend, the home side equalising in extra time to make it 1-1 was the perfect game preparation for this Saturdays game. A super high tempo over 90 minutes summed up the quality need to be successful in the NWCFL, but as IRLAM manager Michael Dodd said this week in his interview with the Bootiful game blog, it is the team that performs on the day that will progress in this knockout competition.
IRLAM certainly have the form and the motivation to progress, and hopefully it will be a successful afternoon at the Ambitek Stadium.
