Basement Battle Ends In Defeat

Our 1st Team lost 4 - 0 on Saturday at Yarnton Road to Sutton Coldfield town......read on

It's taken me a couple of days to write this short report after our disappointing defeat to Sutton Coldfield at the weekend left me completely deflated.

We went into this game with high hopes of at least getting something from this match to help us start to build up confidence, especially after winning 1-0 at Aylesbury last Saturday, but in truth we were soundly beaten by a side who by their own admission were not playing well and struggling alongside us at the foot of the table.

The match was played in constant rain and the football in the first half, by both sides, was as wet at the conditions with neither keeper unduly tested. Then in added time Sutton's Kyle Delaney slipped his defenders and smashed home a goal to put the visitors in front.

After the break the football unfortunately didn't improve much, though the visitors very nearly scored a second in the 77th minute when Matt Hearsey attempt was cleared off the Kidlington line by Josh Urquhart (I think).

The Greens were finally put out of their misery in the 79th minute, Ryan Nesbitt powered home a superb goal after a good team move had played him in.

Kidlington had barely offered anything all afternoon in their opponents half and were finally polished off by two more goals in added time. Firstly Jon Letford scored on 90+1 and then with Kidlington all over the place Nesbitt netted his second of the afternoon in the 4th minute of added time.

All in all this was a dour afternoon for Ady Fullers side who after taking what looked a major step forward at Aylesbury proceeded to take a couple backwards in this match and remain nailed to the foot of the table.

Team - Warrell, Urquhart, Bott, Franklin, Whitehead, Coleman, Oddy, Stanbridge, Calvin (Carroll 85), Finny, Singh.
Subs did not play - Brooks & Davies
