Kilburn Back on Track

A hat-trick from fly half Jon Green inspired a return to winning ways for the Kilburn Cosmos. After the shock of last week’s loss, the first of the season, it was important to return to winning ways. Despite the 46-6 score line Kilburn didn’t have everything go their way. They fell behind to a penalty in the opening stages of the game and again after another penalty following winger Amal Hirani dotting down for Kilburn to score their first try of the afternoon.
Kilburn managed to keep the opposition out for the rest of the game and score some impressive tries of their own. The pick of the bunch came from centre Phil Cook, who scored two and avoided a hat-trick for the second time this season, finishing off a great team move which saw the ball pass through numerous sets of hands. Jon Green showed his twinkle toes for his first try after dancing through the defence of Old Millhillians. Old Millhillians though were a lot stronger upfront and caused a few problems for the Kilburn pack at scrum time through the afternoon. Kilburn however showed their ever growing squad depth in the last 20 minutes by introducing new signing Rhys Davies, playing in his first game for the 1st XV. He replaced captain Fraser Hutt and put in an impressive display with some strong ball carrying around the fringes.
Frenchman Charlie Migliore was named man of the match, for his excellent work at the breakdown and in defence, his tireless work didn’t allow the home side to establish any phase play and played an influential role in the victor.

On a fairly narrow boggy park against a stronger Old Millhillians pack than expected Kilburn were happy to leave with a comfortable bonus point win and delighted not to have conceded any tries through the afternoon.

'It was great to get back to winning ways, it was a match we were expected to win on paper, but saying that we were also missing 4 regular individuals in the tight 5 who were either rested or out of the country. given those numbers it was great to still put in a strong forwards stint and keep Old Millhillians from scoring a try all day. Neville Marshall made a strong return from leave, even if he was struggling for fitness 10 minutes in, and Charlie Migliore had a good game and deserved the man of the match.'
