KXS 1st XV (27) V Millwall (3)

Following on from a narrow defeat the previous week to league leaders Epping, the players had a clear focus for this weeks fixture against a Millwall team that was 80 mins away from promotion from this league last year in the play off game.

The focus for this group on the day was to play and implement the things we have worked on throughout the summer and to trust the new systems put in place.

KXS started brightly with multiple phases of play through the forwards and backs but although a number of line breaks were made they were unable to capitalise on the superior possession and play.

Eventually the deadlock was broken with a try from Steve Brockman and converted by Sam Judd and although there were still plenty of opportunities that was the only KXS points of the first half and was matched on the stroke of half time by a Millwall penalty leaving the half time score 3 - 7.

The second half started as the first finished with wave after wave of attack by the visitors KXS and eventually this pressure told as KXS ran in tries from Sam Judd, Jack Fossey, Jonah Weisz, and Nick Craigen with one conversion from Sam Judd also, the patterns played and style in which we wish to play was evident at times and the challenge for us as a club is to Improve and add to our performances weekly and keep working hard, however all this said this was the highest league win by the club in history so something to celebrate and the baseline of our performance going forward.

“It was a strong performance by the KXSII, we were able to impose our game from the very beginning on an experienced Wanstead side, bringing home a 59-13 home victory that was more fight than the score might imply.

Great work at the breakdown and a good support game gave the edge to the Steelers team, helped by the kicks of an inspired Ben Critchley (MotM). The boys got two yellow cards 15 minutes from full time and managed to hit back after an opposition try to score themselves with 13 men. We had a positive debut by three new players, that proved they can provide depth and fresh energy to the team.”
