Wasted chances cost Knowle

Knowle started brightly away at Earlswood. Tez Morton was off target with a long range effort in the second minute and then Gavin Lamb had a drive from inside the area deflected wide. So it was no surprise when Knowle took the lead in the 6th minute with Sam Hulme lofting the home keeper after being put through by Steven Ruck. Knowle continued to press with Ruck connecting with a great diagonal by Lamb to shoot just wide and Hulme shooting over from 25 yards. Then Nathan Corry had 3 excellent chances within the space of 4 minutes in the middle of the half. First he rounded the home keeper in the area but was bundled off the ball as about to slot into the empty net then he twice pulled shots wide from 15 yards. Conal Dowling in the Knowle goal saved a 25 yard drive well in the hosts only shot on target in the half. Ruck blazed over from 25 yards as Knowle tried to make their dominance count and then put an effort just wide after Callum Ingram had flicked the ball on. Ingram also headed just wide from a Ruck cross.
Knowle were made to pay for their misses in the second minute of the second half when Stephen Windle brought down a ball in from the right and spun to shoot home to level the scores. Knowle responded straight away with Joe Smith heading a Morton corner just wide. Ruck then cut in off the right to fire at goal but the home keeper got down well to save. Nathan Corry then had an effort blocked in the 6 yard box after Niall Gilbride had headed a corner down into the danger area. The home keeper then saved a Corry header following a cross from Ruck. However, the misses again proved costly as in the 61st minute Earlswood took the lead as a cross from the right was headed back across goal and Matt Whitehouse slotted home. Again Knowle tried to respond with Brad Robinson running at the home defence, playing a one-two with Corry to create space in the box but his effort was then straight at the home keeper. Ruck picked up a long Dowling clearance, cut in off the right but his effort was also straight at the home keeper. Knowle's best chance to level came in the 69th minute when Morton got in behind the home defence and crossed to Corry who side footed at the keeper from 10 yards with the goal at his mercy. Knowle were starting to get to get exposed at the back as they pressed for an equaliser and it cost them in the 80th minute when Dowling came out to clear a through ball but only hit it to Windle who clipped the ball in from 30 yards to extend the home team's lead. Knowle did not give in and pulled one back four minutes later when Smith's cross was headed back across goal by Morton for Ruck to slot home from 8 yards. Earlswood then did well to play the game out and even added a fourth when they moved the ball into the corner and then cut in for Jamie Roberts to secure the win for the home team.
Knowle next return to Hampton Road on Saturday where they face Coton Green with a 3pm kick off.
