Match Report Lakenham - Hewett vs Holt III

A message from your DoR:
Today Lakenham welcomed Holt to Hilltops, this involved a record attendance for the season with Lakenham hosting their first VP dinner of the year.
For those of you that want to know what a VP dinner is, it's essentially a coffee morning (without coffee) full of the old boys who whinge about the following:
* Current state of the modern game
* Do you remember when there was no Concussion protocal
* I loved watching Rugby on my black and white screes
AND FINALLY
* Those shirts look awfully tight.
They then finish the day being picked up by their long suffering wives and sticking their head down the toilet after drinking a mixture of Red Wine and Stout, by then its only 6PM.
It was clear to see Holt were fired up from the start, most likely because the farming lot were worried about the impact of a no deal Brexit!!!!
Lakenham ran hard from the off breaking the gain line on many occasions but failing to convert, however Michael Barber opened the scoring with a 50 metre run. Holt were continuing to exert pressure throughout the game and scored to cut the gap to two. Midway through the half Phil Dukes decided to annoy Holt's silver fox and both of them were 'wrestling' on the floor- Eyewitnesses say it resembled a loving couple from a Hollywood romcom. Both were given their marching orders by the ref and forced to listen to club stalwart Andy Pullinger talk about the state of his knees for 10 minutes.
Holt were beginning to gain a foothold on the game and were ahead by halftime. Dan Baker received his bout of karma for 26 years of acting like a tw*t when he received a knee to the head from the infamous Holt Silverfox. Baker was taken from the field- his funeral will be held at the clubhouse on Tuesday.
The second half was much more of a challenge, it was clear that Lakenham's massive effort in the first half had taken its toll, and with Holt having some extra bodies they managed to secure the game. It was not all negatives for Lakenham with Captain Michael Barber leading from the front scoring all 4 tries therefore securing us a Bonus point. Graham Cook must be given a special mention, he was an absolute battering ram in the midfield and consistently broke the gain line.
The effort from the boys was phenomenal, and it makes me proud to play alongside these boys even when the club are struggling this year, Ash Johnson going off injured only to come back on 10 minutes later to help his mates out epitomizes the spirit in the team (He had cramp, so Andy Leech called him names).
Overall, shame about the result but positives to take away, Thankyou for everybody's support today, it really makes a difference when you have the old boys behind you and encouraging you (apart from Henry Darling, he's just a bit weird)
Thats all for now
