SUPERB AWAY PERFORMANCE

By

United switched to a 4-4-2 and looked solid throughout whilst playing some slick football going forward.

The first half saw United move forward with purpose and the only real criticism was that we were level.

We had managed a few good openings and put the home keeper under some pressure at times but Newcastle Town, away and 0-0 I guess we would have been happy with that.

It all changed for the good early in the second half when United worked a good position for Danny Brooks to drive the ball home.

That goal came in the 48th minute and the Whites were now in a position to use their pace and movement to pick Newcastle off as the home side searched for a goal to get back in the game.

Lynton Karkatch on loan from Gainsborough Trinity came on for Andrew Wright who had put in a great shift. Karkatch might have scored with his first touch but had to wait a minute or two to cut in and and drive into the far bottom corner to double United’s lead in the 65th minute.

In Staffordshire a week earlier United had been pegged back but not this week as Jack McGovern sealed the points with a 69th minute free-kick.

Not even Aaron Carter’s 72nd minute strike for the home side could dent United’s resilience and with 7 draws in our league it meant we had gained at least two points on eighteen teams.

Now Dave Frecklington will be asking his lads to back this up on Tuesday night with a re-arranged home fixture against Goole – Kick Off 7.45pm
