Tom Garrick (pictured) made his second start of the season and emphasised United's early superiority with a goal-of-the-season contender.
He twisted and turned in midfield and unleashed a shot from around 30 yards into the top corner.
Defender Matty Wilson then doubled the lead in the 16th minute stabbing the ball home following a corner.
The home side came more into the game and just before the break were given a lifeline when right back Aaron Hart hit a cross-cum-shot that luckily looped over keeper Mike Emery and dropped inside the far post.
Lincoln United soaked up pressure for much of the second half and apart from a Josh Nichol lob that dropped onto the roof of the net created few chances.
Just when it looked like the points were theirs a home attacker was adjudged to have been fouled in the box and Adam Millson scored from the spot.
The Whites will class this as a win that got away but ironically with other results going their way the solitary point moved them up a place to fourth in the table with another home game to come on Saturday.
