Warriors Kick On
The Llanelli Warriors edged an exciting game against Pantyffynnon on Saturday that came down to the final kick.
Pantyffynnon hosted the Llanelli Warriors on the weekend in what turned out to be a very entertaining encounter between two well matched teams.
With nothing but pride at stake both sides looked to enjoy the occasion and play with width. From the beginning it was obvious that neither side was going to dominate and although the game ebbed and flowed, neither side could truly seize a decisive advantage as they remained within a score of each other.
The Warriors welcomed back Simon Jenkins after a year of recovery and alongside Dai Haines, Mark Lewis and Tomos Hall, the Warriors had plenty of options to take on the hard yards. This allowed the Warriors to play a controlled match up front and chose when to unleash the backs. Lewis got the first try with a typical short burst over the try line.
Whilst the Warriors were able to keep possession for periods, they sometimes struggled to finish moves and Panty were always alert to any opportunities. Jordan Brundrett and Dafydd Jones were the main threats producing some spectacular long range tries.
It would be unfair to say it was just Warriors forwards against Pantyffynnon back though. Jim Baker and Chris Bowen had strong games for the home side up front whilst Nathan Murphy and new recruit Neil Price did well in the Warriors backline. Man of the Match went to Warriors full back Simon Day who made and saved scores in an excellent performance.
Perhaps the Warriors did just deserve the result, they scored the try of the day when lock Darren Pollitt showed up at the end of a sweeping move to drop over. Panty scored a late try to put themselves 5 ahead with as many minutes to go. With time running out centre Ben Win was worked clear and with the final kick of the game wing Tony Whittaker slotted the conversion to claim the spoils.
An enthralling contest would have seen both clubs happy with their performance, but only the Warriors happy with the result.

A cracking performance. Nice to see Neil play his 1st proper match. Great to Simon Jenkins back after a long break - running hard, scoring points and swearing profusely. Special mention to Darren Polly for not only scoring a cracking try but having the cleanest hair in the club.
Panty prop (and former Warriors) Chris 'Fester' Bowen also had a quick review of the day:
