A game too far for hard working Warriors

By

Day 3 of the not a tour - tour and a wind soaked match with the Chiefs.

Two days playing rugby and two nights celebrating playing rugby had left their mark on the Warriors squad. Bambi, Rich Davies, Tom Ed and Yanis had left the trip whilst Mark Lewis failed a late fitness check but coming in from Llanelli and into the 2nd row was Nathan Lawson.

Despite the atrocious weather the game went ahead and speculation was high after the teams had drawn level the previous day in a match that was cut short due to injury to Tomos Hall. (Tomos was fine and played a full part in the game).

The Chiefs started strongly and got the lead after quarter of an hour. Whilst the Warriors struggled manfully, the Chiefs were generally able to hold them, their scrum half in particular frustrating them at the break down. The wet conditions obviously affected the game but both sides still looked to play attractive football and skill levels were generally good.

The Warriors carried well with Man Of The Match Simon Jenkins leading the way and ensuring there were some sore bodies amongst the opposition. The Chiefs though made their chances count and extended their lead whilst the Warriors had two tries disallowed.

A physically demanding game took it's toll on the visitors who also rued not having a specialist full back to counter the Chiefs kicking. The Cardiff team scored a third converted try at the mid point of the second half to effectively seal the game but the Warriors finished strongly and deserved their consolation score when Jon Kearney drove over after a series of attacks.

Both sides were pleased with their efforts, especially with players missing. A deserved win for the Chiefs on this occasion but with two more matches scheduled between the clubs for the season the Warriors will be optimistic about their chances in the return.

Well done guys - a great effort by all to get the club through three days of rugby. Special mention to Trevor playing his 1st ever rugby match when he came on for Hapus late on. As the bus photos show it was a hard weekend - thanks to Hapus for the photos of everyone sleeping, and Fudge for the photo of Hapus sleeping 5 minutes later.
