Evo-stik Northern Premier League Marine announces that Everton and Liverpool legends Alan Stubbs and David Fairclough will be the main guests at a fundraising evening at the Marine Travel Arena on Friday 5th May 2017.

The event sees Marine and their ground share partner AFC Liverpool sharing proceeds from the evening which is once again organised by both clubs.

Alan Stubbs played as a centre-back for Bolton Wanderers, Celtic, Everton (two spells), Sunderland and Derby County until his retirement, due to a knee injury, in August 2008. Stubbs then worked as a coach for Everton, and started his management career with Hibernian in 2014. He then had a brief tenure at Rotherham United in 2016. After spending 6 years at Bolton Wanderers he joined Celtic in 1996 for a £4 million pound fee (Celtic record at that time] staying until 2001 before his dream move to Everton in July of that year. Stubbs made nearly 150 appearances for the toffees over a 4 year spell before joining Sunderland in 2005 for a short stay before rejoining Everton for a second time making a further 45 appearances. Stubbs scored 7 goals for Everton in a total of over 190 appearances.

David Fairclough came through the Liverpool ranks as a boy and made his debut for the club on 1 November 1975 in the 1–0 league win over Middlesbrough at Ayresome Park. As the season progressed, Fairclough scored seven crucial goals in just 14 appearances to land Liverpool the League championship. Nine of these appearances were as substitute. David's first goal for the club came three days after his debut on 4 November 1975, during the 6–0 defeat of Spanish side Real Sociedad at Anfield in a UEFA Cup tie.
In an 8 year career at Anfield Fairclough made a total of 154 appearances scoring 55 goals before leaving in 1983 and in that time he helped Liverpool win the League Championship 3 times in 1975-66, 1976-77, 1979-80; the League Cup in 1983; the European Cup in 1977 and 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1976

Tickets for the evening are £25 and includes a choice of hot pot, lasagne or chicken curry and apple pie & cream.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said:

“It is great news that Alan Stubbs and David Fairclough have agreed to be our main guests at this important “Red and Blue” themed fundraising event for Marine and AFC Liverpool. This is our only joint fundraising event of this season and I am sure the night will be attended by many of the Merseyside football fans in the area. Once again I am delighted that AFC Liverpool has also agreed to host the evening with us in what will be a great night at the Marine Travel Arena.”

AFC Liverpool Chairman Chris Stirrup said:

“We are really pleased to be hosting this very special event with our football friends from Marine at the end of the season. To have a “Red and Blue” night is a great idea and to have Alan Stubbs and David Fairclough as our special guests is brilliant and a really great night can only be expected for those attending. The added appearance of Roger the famous wing-walker only adds further interest to the evening which looks set to create a lot of interest in the coming weeks.”
