Mariners go down to frustrating defeat at Warrington...
Marine went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Warrington Town on Saturday, Jack Mackreth's 16th minute penalty being the only goal of the game in a closely fought affair.
The Crosby club hit the woodwork three times, Chris Doyle's thumping first half header, a long throw which skimmed off a defender's head and Danny Mitchley's shot from a narrow angle all hitting the frame of the goal.
Their best chance fell to Liam Hynes inside the opening ten minutes, his low shot being parried by an excellent save from Tony McMillan between the sticks.
Warrington took the lead following the award of a penalty, Dylan Vassallo hitting the deck with the referee pointing to the spot, Mackreth's well struck kick beating Martin Fearon to his right.
The home defence have been miserly so far this season and kept the Mariners at bay during the second half, the Yellows only really threatening to extend their lead late on as the game stretched.
Home substitute Richard Brodie saw red for a second yellow card but the visitors were unable to find the equaliser their display merited.
