Pritchard Satisfied with Progress to Date

By Alan Turner

As we begin the Christmas break Manager James Pritchard takes stock of his first eventful months in charge.

It was a major coup for the club that the services of James Pritchard were secured. James, very much a local man, followed in the footsteps of his Father former Marlow FC and United Manager Graham Pritchard.

James played for Marlow FC on over 300 occasions scoring 100+ goals in the process, also appearing for Maidenhead United, Slough Town and others, before moving on to manage both Flackwell Heath and Beaconsfield Town leading the latter to Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup triumph as well as the league play-offs.

As a further ‘connection’ James also played for United for the second half of the 2004/05 season scoring the solitary goal that clinched the Reading Football League title at Wilks Park.

The club were delighted that James accepted the position of First team Manager and he quickly set about pulling together a management team that fitted completely with both United’s and his own ambitions.

The appointment of Yash Romeo as Assistant Manager was inspired. Yash who made 82 appearances for Thatcham Town scoring 36 goals, also played for Maidenhead United and Burnham among others but is also a former Marlow FC player scoring 20 goals in 39 appearances. Adam Dickens was appointed as player/coach and again adds a further local effect having played for both Marlow FC and United as well as Burnham, Slough Town and Aylesbury United among others, indeed Adam made his senior debut aged just 15 years old for United.

A better start to the campaign couldn’t be wished for as United find themselves in a strong position leading into the Christmas break and new Boss James Pritchard had this to say;

“Time certainly flies by and to think pre-season training began nearly 6 months ago shows just that.”

[i]“When taking the role I knew I had two things to do immediately, one was to build a management team that would deliver giving the right environment and foundation to build upon sharing my same vision and expectations. I was very pleased to obtain the services of Yash Romeo, Adam ‘Dicko’ Dickens and their knowledge and support to date has been hugely appreciated and as a group we have worked hard to create as good a professional atmosphere for the players as we feel we possibly can.”

“Second key point was to meet all the existing players and look to add others to strengthen the group for the season ahead. All the existing players attitudes have been very good and I can only thank them for their hard work and commitment since I took over. New players have come into the squad and again they have integrated into the group very well and the changing room is a good place with friendships still developing and progressing in a positive manner.”

“The league campaign to date has seen us off to a good start with the team being involved in many competitive games. Every game brings its challenges in this league (Thames Valley Premier League) and all are played at a high tempo and pace that means we must be equipped correctly to match. We have had good cup runs to date with three quarter finals to look forward to and that is always positive to keep your season ticking over with games so to allow the squad to all get good game time which keeps everyone competitive and honest.”

“We have major challenges in the new year and we are looking forward to these and then how we move into the business end of the season. I must finish by thanking all the people behind the scenes that have supported both me and the team and all their hard work and commitment is priceless in ensuring everything goes to plan on match days both home and away.”
