Melbourne captain Harry Collins won the toss and decided to send the South Cave & Brantingham team out to field with rain and sunshine alternating. Melbourne lost the early wicket of Malcolm Harrison [0] when he was caught off the bowling of Pai in the first over. Liam Barlow who has joined Melbourne from Londesbrough Park looked settled but was caught in the fourth over off the bowling of Harris having made 13. With the South Cave & Brantingham bowlers bowling tight Oliver Steels and Matt Beevers were made to wait for the odd loose ball however Beevers [4] was caught off the bowling of Harris in the 8th over to put Melbourne on a concerning 24-3. Steels was joined by Collins and the two put on a further 24 before Collins [6] was caught off the bowling of Cray in the 15th over. Steels had made a good 22 when in the 26th over he clipped the ball onto his wicket off the bowling of Charminda. Jamie Kirby [2] and Dave Coe [8] became Charmindas 2nd and 3rd wickets after they were both caught, Brian Underwood [6] Charmindas 4th when he was out lbw in the 30th over with the board on 87 and Ben Thompson [6] was his 5th victim when he was also caught. Natty Burge who has joined Melbourne from Stamford Bridge and his brother Callam both batted well and made the most of the occasional loose ball, Natty made 16 before being caught off the bowling of Lucie, Callam finished on 4 not out. Melbourne finished on 108-10 off 36.2 overs.
South Cave & Brantingham bowling: Charminda 12-0-30-5, W Harris 6-0-16-2.
In reply South Cave & Brantingham openers Suresh and Pai put the pressure on the Melbourne bowlers and any loose ball was despatched however after a change of bowling Pai [40] was caught by Steels off the bowling of Harrison in the 16th over when the board was on 74. With Harrison and Collins bowling the run rate was reduced considerably and with the board on 89 Harris [7] was caught by Underwood and James was bowled both by Collins in the 23rd over. Melbourne continued to pressurise the South Cave batsmen and took a further 3 wickets in the next 7 overs with Patchett [4] caught by Kirby and Lucie [1] bowled by Collins and Ali [0] caught by Callam Burge off the bowling of Harrison. With SC & B on 99-7 off 34 overs Melbourne bowlers battled to the end taking the wicket of James [3] when he was caught by Liam Barlow to bring Collins his 5th wicket of the match. Suresh who had had a break in the game after suffering from cramp in the 15th over and had returned to the crease later in the game was caught by wicketkeeper Beevers in the 38th over off the bowling of Harrison after making 32. In a tense final 2 overs SC & B managed two singles to bring them victory with 1 over to spare. Cray finishing on 3 not out and Hinson 2 not out.
