Confident Mellor performance against Brooklands U12s

By

Great team effort before the half term break

The Mellor gang were away again, this time at Brooklands on another lovely autumnal day. Early proceedings started well with, as one would expect, plenty of sensible parental type comments extolling the virtues of the facilities and the good range of refreshments behind the bar. At what age in life does this become of paramount importance one wonders ?!

The boys of course were focused on the game, which given Brooklands had a limited turnout, we agreed to play eight a side, giving us three subs to their none. Plenty of running was going to be required by the Brooklands midfielders !

The first quarter began well for Mellor with a good solo goal from Charlie, then Charlie again following a powerful run from Ellis, before Finn (twice) and Ellis got on the scoresheet to make it 5. Excellent defence from Ollie and James, along with a fantastic save from Frederick meant a first quarter shut out.

The second quarter was in similar vein with Mellor putting significant pressure on Brooklands. Finn scored three, two from Charlie, a great solo goal from Sammy, plus Miles and Seb made it eight. Ollie registered his first assist following a Robbie style barnstorming run from defence and Ellis controlled midfield, feeding the attackers with three assists. Brooklands bagged a couple through their excellent no. 9.

The coaches agreed to a slightly shorter second half of 20 mins given Brooklands were without subs and the third quarter kicked off. Brooklands came back into the game well and shut Mellor out, but were unable to score themselves as Mellor defended well as a unit. Theo was his tenacious usual self, battling for every ball and hassling the opposition constantly.

More goals from Charlie x 2, and James K, and another assist from Ellis, together with a shut out from the Mellor defence made it a final score of 16 - 2. Despite only having eight Brooklands acquitted themselves extremely well in the second half when heads could have gone down.

For Mellor some great performances all round, with special mentions to Ollie in defence, Ellis in midfield and Charlie up front. Frederick again made some excellent reaction saves keeping the opposition to only two. Interesting to note Mellor have conceded the fewest goals in the league so far this season.

Difficult one for man of the match so on this occasion could I propose that two are merited, Ellis and Charlie. Well done boys !
