U16s first defeat of the season

Spirited performance by Timperley who pipped Mellor late on

First defeat of the season and Mellor deserved it. After playing as a team for two games and looking really strong Mellor met a really good Timperley team and fell back on old, bad habits. Timperley were well organised and plainly well up for it. Mellor looked sluggish and went 4-0 down in the first quarter. They rallied and started to string passes together but they never made the most of possession, too often going for individual goals rather than the patient passing game that was needed against Timperley. By the end of the third quarter Mellor were actually in the lead 7-5 but a limp fourth quarter saw them ship three goals and lose the game. Timperley held on to possession to play the game out and Mellor simply didn’t have any response. Will in goal and the defence in front of him didn’t play badly but too much possession was wasted in midfield. As expected Mellor got a good ticking off from the coach at the end. They’re a better team than the one on display today. Match report by Dominic Macdonald.
