What a great game of football between the Tigers and waunfawr in a game that had everything!
We were missing Tom Scorer (holidays) and Tom Parry (working), but had Lance Williams and Matty Kerr in the squad. With us playing 6 games in 17 days we rotated the squad with Matty Kerr making his debut playing centre half with Richard Evans.
The Tigers started quickly and took the lead after only 3 minutes when Jamie Aston was quickest to react to a rebound off the keeper, after Lance Williams had hit a snap shot from the edge of the box.
On 24 mins we doubled our lead when Guy Hughes worked his way into the box to beat the keeper. Waunfawr had some great possession and played some lovely football but couldn't quite create a clear chance.
Half Time - Menai Bridge Tigers 2 - 0 Waunfawr
The second half started and only 2 minutes in when a last ditch attempt from Richard Evans to try and stop the Waunfawr forward scoring, resulted in a penalty being awarded and even with a slip Dylan Hughes managed to score and Waunfawr were back in the game.
On the hour some excellent close control by Dave Roberts (who had been outstanding all game) resulted in a rash tackle from a defender and the ref point to the spot. Up stepped Guy Hughes and pulled his shot wide.
The penalty drama continued when the visitors were awarded their 2nd of the night only for Lee Moore dived to his right and make a fantastic save to push the ball out for a throw, only for Waunfawr to a long throw in and catch the Tigers defence off guard, Lee made a brilliant reaction save only for the ball to fall to the feet of Jac Evans to make it 2-2 ...... Game on!
A tactical master class by the management (Sean taking all the credit in the Buck after the game) saw Gareth Barker replace Dave Roberts and we went more attacking with Gaz going up top to partner Lance Williams. With his first touch Gareth Barker does what he does best and used his skill and experience to hold off a defender and finished brilliantly by placing the ball into the bottom corner as the Waun keeper came rushing out to put the tigers in front.
The last ten minutes was end to end, with Tim Evans and Callum Davidson running riot with powerful runs but neither team could add to the scoreline.
