Blues make it a league double of Staines Town
By Lucas Flanders
Met dented Staines’ hopes a play-off spot beating the Surrey side 4-2
Played on the warmest day of the year both teams provided an entertaining game for the shirt sleeve crowd. Staines had best of the early play in line with their position pressing to achieve a play off place and only a good diving save by Luke Williams prevented Mo Bettamer from giving Staines the lead. But on 24 minutes Met took the look when Liam Enver-Marum scored smartly having been set up by Tom Hickey. Staines responded in determined fashion and only another fine save by Luke Williams stopped Buchanan from equalising.
Within a minute of the restart after half time the Met doubled their lead when Jay Gasson hit a real screamer from 30 yards giving Hudnott no chance. Staines were down but not out. On 52 minutes Bettamer pulled one back with a header following a corner. Three minutes later the score should been level when Staines were awarded a soft penalty but Met saw justice done when Luke Williams saved Buchanan’s penalty. Luke Williams made a further excellent save at the feet of Bettamer as Staines continued to press for an equaliser. Finally they got their reward on 70 minutes when a defensive error saw a Misti know fall kindly for Buchanan to level the scores. The game was now very open and free flowing. On 80 minutes a Tom Bird free kick was headed home by Jay Gasson. And with three minutes to go Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick burst through down the right latching onto a pass from Jon Nurse to finish the scoring and give the Met 4-2 win
