Fantastic performance today from all the lads in what was horrendous conditions. We’ve been talking a lot lately about creating wider running channels when we have possession and today this was spot on in the first match with some fantastic passing and support play that really stretched the Buckingham lads resulting in some good tries.
The forwards really dominated the set piece (scrum) pushing Bucks back which gave Noah and Josh a really good platform to move the ball into wider positions for the support players to run onto the ball, some really good handling with a wet muddy ball.
We’ve been slow at closing the opposition down in previous games but today we saw a huge improvement where our line speed and general defensive play was good. If you noticed I was asking the boys on occasions not to contest at some of the breakdowns if we either didn’t have the numbers or couldn’t win it back, for that I’m then looking for two guards either side of the ruck and everyone else then forms the defence line. Worked well a couple of times.
Overall a really good win (first game) with tries from Billy, Rashaun, Dylan, Gus, Roan and Cartel with his first for the team.
