It has been a summer of change for the club as it prepares for the new season.

At a senior level further restructuring to the leagues has resulted in less travelling for the 1st Team, with local derby matches against Llanidloes, Welshpool and Cobra to look forward to. There is also an early season cup fixture against Machynlleth to be anticipated.

The senior coaching team has changed, with the successful partnership of Gareth Jones and John Thurston stepping down, while John is also hanging up his boots, the club are deeply grateful to John for his contribution on and off the pitch during his playing & coaching career with Newtown.

The club has looked to appoint a new coaching team from within, with Iain Lewis and Neil Farrington taking over as senior coaches having come through the coaching ranks at the club. After sending a young team to the Machynlleth Sevens tournament, who reached the final, and a successful pre-season match against Ludlow, the coaches are justified in looking forward with confidence to the new season.

The club is proud of its Junior and Youth sections, where the commitment of coaches at a full range of age groups from under 7s to Youth level is appreciated. The quality and standard of the young players coming though this system, is a testament to the hard work of the youngsters and coaches alike.

A further initiative being undertaken by the club this season is to reinvigorate a second senior rugby side in the town. Rugby is a great sport which engenders many qualities in its participants at every standard, and efforts are being made to make the sport available to more adults in the area. The club is always looking to welcome new players and anyone interested in playing senior rugby should contact the club for further information.

The club also welcomes a new Chairman this season as former player and club stalwart Mark Lloyd takes over at the helm. Mark follows on from Derek Murray who steps down after two successful seasons in charge. Mark has paid tribute to our outgoing chairman saying “Derek, has done a fantastic job and we thank him for everything he has achieved in his tenure as club Chairman”

With so much going on, the club is also looking to step up its communications to supporters and friends of the club to advise them of all the latest news, fixtures and events.
The club will also be linking up with its followers and supporters via Facebook, Twitter, Team App, and the website.

Best wishes from
