Both sides knew that they had participated in a hard fought game and using the well known saying a ‘game of two halves’.
Leak travelled to Northwich after completely smashing their opposition in their previous two games. Both Leak and Northwich on maximum points at the start of the game. After 12 minutes Leak scored a converted try then the game really livened up. 25 minutes into the game the forwards released the ball to the threes which was quickly passed along the line to Kyle Clark who scored a very good try, converted by ‘steady Eddie ‘ Harry Naylor.
30 minutes in Harry Naylor crossed the line for a try. 7 minutes later Ian Haddock received the ball from the forwards dragging several Leak players with him to score a try, converted by Harry Naylor. During this half Lewis Lomas had to go off due to injury.
The start of the second half Northwich 19 - Leak 7. I believe, just like last Saturday, we thought job done and switched off. Leak are a team that you can’t allow this to happen. They quickly ran in 5 tries. The last quarter of the game we came back scoring a converted try Kenny Oliver. Had we played like this in the first part of the second half I believe we could have won the match. This was a very costly game for Northwich. ‘Nemo’ Liam Marshallo be carried off with an ankle injury but sadly Ian Haddock sustained a very serious knee injury which he thinks maybe the end of his rugby career.
All our best wishes go to Ian and look forward, hopefully, to seeing him back.
I can’t stress this enough the modern game of rugby requires a squad of at least 20 players. This worked extremely well yesterday with players coming on and off. I know that not all players got an equal amount of time on the pitch, I would like to thank you all for your understanding in this and particularly Andy Lawler. Man of the match playing in his favourite position for the whole game was Harry Naylor but although we lost everyone of our players gave their all and Northwich Rugby Club is very proud of them.
Welcome return to Billy Cole and Tom Williams.
