An Ashley Jarvis hat trick enabled The Magpies to maintain their 100% start to the season and condemned the Planters to their fifth successive defeat.
With Matt Brown aggravating an injury at Brentwood and Marley Flute unavailable, Sam Watts returned to the line-up along with Nathan Stewart who returned after a holiday.
After a cagey opening the visitors took the lead with their first real attack in the 10th minute, Elliot Pride's long ball forward was headed on by Jake Anema and Jarvis hit a first time shot across Andy Wilton and it nestled inside the far post.
Although play was reasonably even it was the visitors who were creating the chances whilst the Planters failed to break down the Magpies defence. Anema cut in off the left to curl a shot wide and on a spereate occasion Wilton comfortably fielded a long range shot from Daniel Beaumont.
The Magpies doubled their lead after 33 minutes, a corner from the right was headed back at the far post into a crowded box and Jarvis got the all important touch, the ball going in off the underside of the bar.
The Planters almost hit back immediately with Jamie Spellers 25 yard drive going just wide of the far post. Jay Eastoe-Smith then had to clear Henry Pollock's right wing cross with Lawrence Cheese closing in.
Early in the second half Jarvis looked sure to complete a hat trick when he squeezed a shot past Wilton but saw it come back off the foot of the post.
The Planters were coming back into the game however and Stewart did well to evade two challenges before racing to the by-line and putting an excellent ball in to Cheese whose first time strike was denied by a good close range save by Pride.
Shaun Wones was the next to be denied by the keeper who this time tipped over the bar from the powerful header from a right wing corner.
The hosts were having the best of the game now and Andy Eastaugh's header went across the face of goal with Lee Will just failing to get that all important touch. Adam Hipperson was next to threaten but the quality of his hold and turn wasn't met by the shot which went wide.
Against the run of play the Magpies sealed the game when a cross from the right saw Jarvis glance a header inside the far post to complete his hat-trick with fifteen minutes still to play.
The Planters should have had a penalty when Eastaugh was held in the box, something the referee admitted after the game, the Planters skipper caught the offender which unleashed a furious assault by most of the Magpies team. After a long delibiration by the officials Eastaugh along with Magpies skipper David Hinton were both given their marching orders and Ben Jones and Steve Taylor received cautions.
The Planters finally got the reward their second half performance deserved when a Jamie Speller driven free kick rebounded to Liam Jackson who fired home from ten yards.
Jackson also went close in injury time when his header from a Jones cross went narrowly over the bar.
