Old Coventrians 22
Nuneaton Old Eds 36
Played three, won three and third in the table, that's a free-flowing Eds side after another fine display in the autumnal sunshine.
The home side might have scored first and last but in between Eds were the more accomplished side and well deserved this win.
Slicker and quicker Eds might have been but they got an early wake-up call when Covents drove over in their first assault and the conversion took them to 7-0.
On five minutes full-back Sam Southall stepped through a couple of tackles to score wide out and centre Matt Loveday's conversion shot was short.
Craig Jones gave Eds the lead with a try and Loveday's kick put Eds up 12-7 up.
Jones skipped over again and Eds now led 17-7.
Covents' defence got more assured and the rest of the half remained pointless.
Covents made it 17-10 with a simple penalty on the resumption
The home side then conceded a penalty close to their line, Eds called for a scrum, won the heel and scrum-half Matt Fielder had the satisfaction of nipping over for the try against his old club.
Loveday's converted and Eds were now clear at 24-10.
On 15 minutes came the try of the afternoon.
Centre Ed Allard swept through and handed on to Jones. Winger Luke Roberts was hauled down but Southall was in support for the touchdown and Loveday made it 31-10 with the kick.
Eds were now in charge and a try for hooker George Parker made it 36-10.
Covents had the final say right at the end with a try which narrowed the gap to 36-22.
Too little, too late.
Next Saturday Eds are at home to Laurentians.
The kick-off is at 3pm .
