Tyler braces earns second win for Oaks

Oakwood Ladies made it two wins in a row after an impressive away display against Wandgas.

It was something of a tough pre-season for the Oaks’ who now seemed to have turned the corner with another hard fought victory.

Emily Harris made her return to the defence, while her namesake Emily Kendal got her first senior debut after six weeks training with The Oaks.

Super sub Emily was at the heart of most of the action, terrorising the Wandgas backline with her skill and determination, and going close to scoring on a couple of occasions. At only 16 years of age her performance was all the more exciting, showing her strength on the ball and competing against players much older than her.

At the other end of the pitch Oakwood were solid with goalkeeper Kelsey Hutchinson keeping her defence in order. In front of her, Abi Knight and Sarah Killick-Bird’s defensive partnership continues to blossom while Steph Minn marshalled the midfield, stopping any Wangas attacking threats.

Most of the action was in the Wandgas box and it was only an incredible performance by the opposition’s ‘keeper that kept the score down. The away side had to wait for a penalty to break the deadlock and it was there ever reliable captain Lauren Tyler who stepped up to make it 1-0.

The second half continued in the same vein with Oakwood dominant. Pam McDonnell was proving a real handful, covering every blade of grass and coming close to scoring on several occasions.

However the points were sealed with another goal by captain Lauren Tyler after perfectly placing a left footed shot from just inside the box.

Oakwood move up to fifth and will look to build on their clean sheet against Bexhill Reserves next Sunday.

Manager Andy Parsons said: “It was a great team performance once again, going away from home and working together to get the result. We will continue to work hard in training and apply our game model to each match, we know what we are about. It was also really important to get the clean sheet as we look to keep this run going.”
