Oban defeat Glasgow side

Oban travelled to south Glasgow on Sunday 14th June for a match against Uddingston 2nd X1. For this game, Oban welcomed back Allan Laycock, who as a student in Glasgow, is now featuring regularly for Uddingston 1st X1 and is making a name for himself by playing at a high level week in, week out with and against current Scotland internationals.

Uddingston batted first and, after 20 overs, had made 96 without losing a wicket and must have had thoughts of a large total. Oban's bowlers though, stuck to their task and wickets started to fall. Andrew Leach, Taj Islam and Neill Belshaw all took wickets and the Uddingston innings started to falter. Young Lewis Haddon, playing his first game for the club, bowled well and the final wicket fell with the score on 195.

On a good pitch and a fast outfield, Oban knew they had a chance of chasing these runs and so it proved as they began well with a fine 60 from Mark Boyce. Taj Islam also passed 50 as Oban reached 146 before the 4th wicket fell. Ronnie Kelly was then joined by Donald Histead and they batted sensibly to remove any optimism that Uddingston had of winning the match. An unbeaten partnership of 50 between them was enough to see Oban reach 196 for the loss of only 4 wickets and a fine victory away from home against a well prepared and organised side.
