King's the Judge, Jury and Executioner as Shirebrook Pay the Penalty!

A 93rd minute winner by Gav King, as well as two penalties, gave Ollerton the win on Derby Day

Ollerton Town secured their second successive victory on Saturday after a 93rd minute winner by star striker Gav King saw them come out on the right side of a five-goal thriller in their local derby against Shirebrook Town.

After beating Worsbrough Bridge last time out, Ollerton came into the game confident of getting a result and they managed to take a 2-0 lead thanks to penalties by Conor Higginson and Gav King. Shirebrook fought back however and managed to draw level with two minutes to go. It looked like the sides would be settling for a point each but King had other ideas, scoring a stunning winner with just seconds on the clock.

The first chance of the game fell to Ollerton and King. In the fifth minute, the visitors took advantage of some sloppy play on the edge of the Shirebrook area before King drilled a shot wide with his left foot.

In the 12th minute, the home side responded and Sam Dockwray almost got a goal against his former club . A quick free kick saw the ball fall for Dockwray who shot well over the bar.

Shortly before the half hour mark, the game's first penalty arrived. Billy Simpson tripped King inside the area and referee Michael Corbally had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Conor Higginson placed the ball down and he sent 'keeper Levi Owen the wrong way to give his home town club the lead.

Shirebrook manager Rob Camm was obviously unhappy with what he was seeing from his side as he made a tactical substitution before the break whilst making a second change at the interval.

The start of the second half was an end-to-end affair with both sides looking to grab a much needed goal.

In the 70th minute, Ollerton were awarded their second penalty of the afternoon. Shirebrook 'keeper Owen clung on to the ball for too long and when King closed him down, the stopper managed to trip the Ollerton forward. With Higginson no longer on the pitch, this time it was King who stepped up and he too confidently dispatched the ball to double Ollerton's advantage.

With the clock running down, it looked like Ollerton would hold on for the victory but the game suddenly turned with two late Shirebrook goals. The first arrived in the 84th minute when Carter Widdowson scored a stunning free kick from 30 yard that left Ollerton 'keeper Phil McGann with no chance.

Time was still on Ollerton's side but the momentum was now with Shirebrook and in the 88th minute they drew level when Kieran Darby skipped past McGann and slotted into an empty net.

It looked like the game would end in a draw but in the 93rd minute, Ollerton stunned the home crowd with a winner. Matty Thompson played a ball over the top to King in the right channel and the prolific forward took the chance early, hitting a sublime half volley that beat Owen and found the back of the net off the far post.

King was booked for taking his top off in his celebration but as he secured his side a big three points, and as he went top of the Division One goalscoring chart, I doubt he really cared.
