Bradley Lowery to lead out the Sides in Michael Kew Charity Match

By Neil Spofforth

Charity match in aid of Macmillan and Bradley's Fight Sunday 14 May 2017

“The Gates will open at 12noon, entry will be £5 for adults and £2 for Children”

The charity match at Ossett Town, in the memory of Leeds United fan Michael Kew, on Sunday 14 May will have a very special guest indeed.

The two sides, which will include famous faces from the screen and football fields, will be lead out by 5-year-old Bradley Lowery who has been diagnosed with Cancer.
Bradley, a Sunderland supporter, is raising money for specialist and progressive treatment that is currently unavailable in this country.

Football fans especially will have seen Bradley recently as he has been mascot for Sunderland AFC, and had a very special visit from players at that club, as well as Everton Football Club who donated £200,000 in 2016.

Darren Powell who is organising this game has announced that the money made from the event will now be split between both Macmillan and Bradley’s own charity.

Darren and Michel, who has been described as a Leeds United superfan, used to follow the whites all over until Michael was sadly diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. Michael lost his battle in April 2015.

The fixture on 14 May will be the second such fixture after Darren arranged a star studded match at Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium last year where £3,000 was raised for Macmillan. Darren is hopeful of beating that figure this time and has set a target of £5,000.

Ossett Town Chairman, James Rogers, is honoured to be asked to host the game “We were aware of the game last year, myself and other members of the committee here are big Leeds United fans too, and when we were asked if we were available to host the game we were very keen”.

“Macmillan is a charity close to many people’s hearts and being able to play a part in a fund raising opportunity is something we’re keen to do. I’m delighted that young Bradley Lowery will be here too. He has had a lot of media coverage in recent times and his is a story that has touched the hearts of many”.

“The clubs committee, members and I will be doing everything we can on the day to make it a memorable one for everyone involved.

The game will see a number of celebrities such as boxer Andy Townend, Emmerdale stars Adam Thomas, Anthony Quinlan & James Hooton and Danny Mac from Hollyoaks take on a ‘Michael Kew XI’ that will include former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan and Manchester City’s Lee Crooks.

The Gates will open at 12noon, entry will be £5 for adults and £2 for Children, kick-off will be at 2pm but before then there will be a lot of entertainment including X-Factor star Thomas Bleasby performing live on the pitch.

Lee Moore will be there with his people dressed as Stormtroopers a Samantha Burns will dressed as Elsa from Disney’s hit animated film Frozen.

To help with the fund raising there will be a number of events throughout the day including:
• Raffle
• Auction
• Face painting
• Leg waxing and head shaving
• Majorettes
• Food and drink
• Tombola

There will be famous faces on the field from:
• Emmerdale
• Coronation Street
• Ex on the Beach
• Love Island
• X-Factor
• Professional Boxer
• Ex-Professional Footballers

Professional Championship referee, Mark Haywood will be taking control of the game and the Wakefield Express and Calendar news will be covering the events of the day.
