My FA Cup: Micky Norbury

Micky Norbury speaks about the FA Cup ahead of our Fourth Qualifying Round Tie with Sollihull Moors

Attention has now turned fully to the biggest game in the clubs recent history as we travel to Vanarama National League side Solihul Moors on Saturday to play for a place in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Whilst the riches of the professional game has reduced the importance of the FA Cup for many supporters, in Non-League it still brings out the passion in clubs, players and supports alike, and for a lot of players can be the highlight of their career.

This is our 42nd campaign in the FA Cup, and just the second time we have got to this round, Ossett Town coach, Micky Norbury, has been in this situation before. “As a lad growing up I could not wait for final. It would be on the TV at 10am and programmes would be back-to-back until the game finished. It is still the best domestic cup in the world”.

“I’ve played in first and second round, the best was when I was at Bridlington Town as an 18 years old. We were in HFS Loans League and went to Conference side Barrow, beating them 2-0. Alan Radford and I scored putting us into the first round proper”.

“The first FA Cup final I remember was 1979, I remember it the most because it hurt the most. Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-2. The Gunners were winning 2-0 before Man U pulled it back to 2-2 only to lose to an Alan Sunderland header in last minute. I was gutted”
