Parkgate FC went down to a 5-1 hammering by Campion........

By Margaret Gregory

A fair assessment would be to say that Campion were the best team we have played- by a mile.…..

Parkgate FC went down to a 5-1 hammering by Campion on Wednesday evening at Roundwood Complex, writes Russ Vernon for Parkgate website.
It was a fast opening 20 minutes with both teams going close to breaking the deadlock, however, on 24 minutes the opening goal of the game came when the visitors won a free-kick, Jason Davis scored his first goal of the evening, when his free-kick deflected off Elliott Simpson and beat Jamie Housley to give Campion the lead.
Parkgate tried to respond but failed to test Daniel Armitage in the visitor’s goal.
Six minutes after opening the scoring the visitors doubled their advantage, as Davis got his second when he unleashed an effort from distance into the top left corner - a superb strike from the striker.
Parkgate tried to get one back before the break going close late on but the Campion keeper wouldn't be beaten.
Half Time: Parkgate FC 0-2 Campion FC.
The second half saw Campion keeping the Parkgate defence under pressure and on 57 minutes they were awarded a penalty following a foul in the area, Davis stepped up and sent Housley the wrong way to extend the visitors lead to three and claim his hat-trick.
Just sixty seconds later, Campion added a fourth when Alex Cusack got onto the score sheet with a fine finish.
Campion were in complete control and managed to get another goal three minutes later when Jahro Parchment finished in fine style to put the game beyond Parkgate with the visitors fifth.
Parkgate continually tried to get onto the scoresheet but were yet to test the keeper, However, with time running out they forced a goal.
A good cross was met by the head of Martin Brissett and he found the back of the net but by that time the game was already finished.

Afterwards Parkgate’s Manager, Billy Fox, told the Club website: We had half of the first eleven that played on Saturday injured or carrying knocks. At this level of football, you have to give the players that turn up every week - and only get ten minutes a game - a chance to keep them interested. A fair assessment would be to say that Campion were the best team we have played- by a mile -and against players that had hardly any match fitness they were bound to be fitter. I could have told anyone that at the beginning of the match. If we had taken our chances we also could have had four or five goals.
"When the team tired in the second half Campion took advantage and never let up" Foxy admitted ". It was not ideal to bring young Tom (Felvus ) on in such circumstances but when he came on he did well. The game was always about players getting some match fitness and although the result didn't show it, several of the players got something out of it."
"All the players left out of the squad, on purpose by me, will be available for the FA Cup tie next week.”
