Percy Main 0 Whitley Bay 'A' 3

Main go out the Bowl....

As all Whitley's goals were scored in the first half hour or so, the game was more or less wrapped up by half time and including their 3 goals, the visitors, who were well on top and had no less than 10 attempts on goal during the first half alone.

Percy Main, improved markedly after the break, also had chances including a couple of gilt edged opportunities, one in each half in fact, which fell the way of the returning Chris Glass and Suaibu Nkuriza, but neither were to make them count. Glass though, put in a useful shift following his move from Bedlington Terriers in midweek and showed enough to indicate that he'll be a useful acquisition during the coming weeks and months.

Too many times this season, The Main have conceded sloppy goals very early on and that trend continued with barely a minute played as Paul Dunn's innocuous looking free kick was whipped in from the left, Rob Rodgerson in the home goal parried and Sven Hart slotted home from close range.

Whitley Bay's tally was doubled on the quarter hour mark as James Proctor advanced into the right side of the area and his cross-cum shot was inadvertently diverted into his own goal by the unfortunate Dale Johnson. Chris Brennan had an effort saved by Rodgerson, while Proctor went close 3 times within 4 minutes, twice off target, 1 of which he should've scored and had another effort on target, which was saved by the goalkeeper.

Hylton Hub fired over for the Whitley, but The Main almost hit back as Ryan Laws deep free kick from the left flank, fell to Glass close in, but his snap shot cleared the crossbar. It was a good chance that on another day might've gone in, but typically the visitors responded in deadly fashion and increased their lead within a minute as Proctor made up ground on the right and squared for Hub who fired home.

Percy Main had a decent amount of possession after the interval and their best chance came on 68 minutes as substitute Mark McDonnell crossed low for Nkuriza, who agonisingly scooped the ball over the bar from close range. McDonnell again almost turned provider a couple of minutes later as he crossed from the opposite flank and Glass headed narrowly wide.

Change of fixture next week as we travel to FC United of Newcastle instead of the scheduled match at home to AFC Killingworth......
