Kicks off 150th anniversary celebrations

The Calcutta Cup, last seen in jubilant scenes at Murrayfield following Scotland’s epic Six Nations victory against England, will be coming to Perth’s North Inch this Saturday to kick off celebrations of 150 years of rugby in Perth.

The famous trophy will be on display at Perthshire Rugby’s 7s Tournament and Perth Beer Festival from 2.00pm – 4.30pm. Viewing will take place alongside the live music, rugby 7s action and an array of fun outdoor family activities of Perth Rugby Fundraiser, Perth Beer Festival – 12noon until 6pm on Saturday.

Scotland pulled off the performance of the season & created the biggest upset of the Six Nations this year to receive the Cup. Perthshire Rugby is delighted that the Club has secured the opportunity to showcase it to rugby fans.

Allan Brown, Chief Executive of Perthshire Rugby comments, “We invite players, members, supporters & the community to come along and see this fantastic trophy at our 7s & Beer Festival on Saturday. We’ve been playing rugby in the heart of Perth since 1868. It’s fitting that the Calcutta Cup will be present as we begin to celebrate our 150th year". The origins of the cup can be traced back to 1872 when England and Scotland players played in Calcutta, only 4 years after Perthshire Rugby was formed and the first game played on the North Inch.
