Phoenix 0 Staveley 2 On Staveley's first visit to Pavilion Lane Phoenix soon found themselves under pressure due to some early attacking play by the visitors, having weathered the early onslaught well the home side recovered their composure and created some good passing play but all was undone on the 12th minute when a clearance by Danny Briggs was returned via a header to a Staveley forward looking very much offside fired home for the first goal of the match Phoenix responded well to the early setback with Dan Briggs and Ross Coates combining well in midfield but to no avail when in the 30th minute a mistake by the home keeper leaves him stranded with Phoenix defender putting into his own net trying to rectify the mistake. With confidence draining from the home side a passage of poor play ensued but the home side rode their luck to keep the deficit at two until the break.
