On their first fist to new side Renishaw Rangers Phoenix go rampant
Renishaw Rangers 0 Phoenix 8
This was Phoenix's first visit to Hard Lane to play league newcomers Renishaw Rangers and for the first 5 minutes both teams sounded each other out, but soon Phoenix began to cause the Rangers problems with centre forward Adam Houghton going close in the 8 and 9 minutes with the home keeper saving first only for the Phoenix forward to shoot wide on the second chance Phoenix continued to apply the pressure when James Davis fired over the bar on the 12 minutes. With Rangers providing the odd sporadic attack which failed to trouble the visitors defence. Phoenix pressure was eventually rewarded in somewhat fortuitous circumstances when on 15 minutes a mis-struck Tom Crosby attempt was deflected in to the path of Adam Houghton who headed home from close range. With the Rangers now struggling to create any chances of note Phoenix continued to pressurise the home defence seeing chances missed by "Hoppy" Hopkins and Danny Briggs, the home defence finally succumbed when quick fire goals on 28, 31 and 32 minutes by Danny Briggs, Adam Houghton and Tom Crosby saw Phoenix take a four goal lead in to the break.
The second half started as the first half finished with the Phoenix looking for further goals and they soon started to appear with chances being converted by "Hoppy" Hopkins in the 48 minute making it 0-5. Substitutes Kyle Elliot and Suhail Hussain introduced for Tom Crosby and Ashley O'Brien missed several good chances before Phoenix got a further 3 goals in the 70 and 80 minutes Adam Houghton stuck to take his tally to four and an own goal splitting two in the 75 minute to make the score 8-0 to the visitors at the final whistle.
